From: http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-1451-Detroit-Movie-Examiner~y2009m5d13-Michigan-screenwriters-network-and-learn Screenwriters have it hard. First, they labor fiercely to fine-tune their skills by attending workshops like the ones sponsored this summer by the Detroit Film Center and featured on the Michigan Film Office site. Then they scour the Internet seizing networking opportunities with other screenwriters by joining groups like Project Light Stand and the Michigan Screenwriters Network. Screenwriters toil for months on a script that may or may not be optioned by a filmmaker or studio. They then either copyright or register their script with the Writers Guild of America in order to keep dirtbags from plagiarizing their screenplay. After that, they are constantly looking for exposure and the means to market their project. So, they look for screenplay contest to enter on withoutabox.com. They join the 48 hour film project for exposure throughout the film festival circuit. Finally, they enter the New York Television Festival Contest hoping to rub elbows with executives at FOX. They even apply for the highly competitive Creative Minds in Cannes program (next year) because they'd love to meet the right producer at an after party. Yep, Michigan screenwriters have it hard. They do all that and then they still have to keep their fingers crossed. Add as favourites (27) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 648
