Governor Jennifer Granholm announced in her state of the state speech on Tuesday night (February 3rd) that Pontiac Michigan will be getting it's first full fledged film studio. Motown Motion Pictures LLC. will be investing upwards of 70 million dollars into creating a 600,000 square foot movie studio out of the old General Motors plant. Including nine sound stages. This isboth a studio and a production company. The project is being funded by local investors as well as Hollywood California based Raleigh Studios and Beverly Hills (California) based Endeavor Talent Agency. Also throwing money into the development is Michigan Economic Growth Authority. The studio is expected to create around 3,600 jobs and another 1,500 jobs indirectly related by the year 2020. Average weekly wage estimated to be around $824. This is something we should all pay close attention to. Larger productions coming into the state will also trickle down to smaller productions done by indiependent filmmakers. All of which will help the local and state economy which has fallen so far off track. http://www.motownmotionpictures.com/ Comments (2) | Add as favourites (162) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 6785 |

Making films in the Fall and Winter |

Well it's that time of year again. We're now in October and it's getting cold out. You wake up in the morning to frost on your car windows. Some years fall seems to be longer then others and opens up a window to get outside and shoot some of the beautiful fall scenary Michigan can provide. Other years we seem to go straight into the cold weather.![]() Just a couple words of encouragement to all you indie filmmakers out there. Keep pushing. Don't let the cold winter stop you. But remember a couple of things. Bring extra blankets on set to keep your equipment, cast and crew warm. Remember to feed everyone, especially if you aren't paying anyone. Hot chocolate and tea can be cheap solutions to help keep everyone warm. Keep everyone moving as much as possible. The more they're moving the less time they have to sit around and complain about how long the shoot is or how cold the weather is. To do this, keep your crew small and plan ahead so that your actors don't have to be there sitting around for three hours until you get to their scene. These are things you should always keep in mind no matter what time of year you are shooting. But in the cold weather a smaller cast and crew is a more nimble cast and crew that can move faster, allow each person to do more and help keep their body heat up. Remember to also bring extra hats and gloves and scarves and don't forget the sunglasses and ND filters. That snow can be mighty reflective. Best of luck to all of you. We are on another set and excited to be working. Intent began filming yesterday. If was colder than a *@#%^& &^%@#& at 6am, but we got the job done. It's exciting to be on another film and we are working on a few more that begin next year. The cast so far is great to work for. Same with the crew. They really bust it out there. Regina, my on-set liasion was on the set most of yesterday to make sure our piece of the movie went well. If you are on Intent, make sure you introduce yourself to Regina. She is great. Have we worked together? My last film was Wedding Day (television), before that All's Faire In Love and Hung for HBO. If you were on the set there, let me know. I'd love to chat with you.
